Longleat to re-open Monday 9th December

Longleat Safari Park was forced to close its gates over the weekend of 7th and 8th December due to safety concerns arising from Storm Darragh’s high winds. Visitors who had planned to attend the much-anticipated Festival of Light were refunded automatically.

The Festival of Light, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, showcases an array of stunning illuminated lanterns. However, the severe weather prompted park officials to prioritise safety.

Scott Ashman, Head of Operations, explained: “We are grateful for all the messages of support and the understanding shown by guests whose visits were cancelled over the weekend due to Storm Darragh. Safety is and always will be our priority, and we are fortunate that we didn’t experience any injuries to staff or animals.”

Despite the storm’s impact, park teams have worked tirelessly to ensure the Festival of Light will continue to delight visitors. Most of the intricate lanterns survived intact, though the Romeo and Juliet display was damaged beyond repair.

Refunds for cancelled bookings are still being processed, and Ashman reassured guests:
“We hope the majority of people will be able to find new dates to visit us.”

The Festival of Light remains open until 5th January, promising a magical experience for those able to attend.
