Local Residents Encouraged to Join Broadgreen Community Engagement Event

Residents of Broadgreen are invited to participate in the latest community engagement event, aimed at fostering collaboration and addressing concerns within the neighbourhood.

Swindon Borough Council, in collaboration with various local agencies including Wiltshire Police, is keen on understanding what residents think about their local neighbourhood and any issues or concerns they have about living there.

In March more than 200 people attended a community engagement day organised by Swindon Community Safety Partnership (CSP), to speak to local organisations about what they like about Broadgreen and what they would like to see improved.

Following this, a proactive week of action was carried out, targeting anti-social behavior, reckless driving, and drug-related offenses, resulting in several arrests, fines, and vehicle seizures. The active presence of local agencies continues to bolster community support and safety initiatives.

Responding to the community’s call for a cleaner environment, a community clean-up day is scheduled for Saturday, 29th June, from 10 am to 12 noon. Swindon CSP extends an open invitation to residents interested in participating, encouraging them to attend a meeting on Monday, 20th May, to discuss plans for the event and contribute to the formation of a new residents’ group advocating for the area.

The meeting, set to take place at Broadgreen Community Centre from 5pm onwards, will feature representatives from Wiltshire Police, the Office of Wiltshire and Swindon Police Crime Commissioner, and South Swindon Parish Council.

Councillor Jim Grant, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Joint Working, said: “There has been a great response from partners in tackling various issues within Broadgreen over the past few months and it has been really positive to see the pride that local people have in their neighbourhood from the community events we have held so far.

“We want to build on that engagement and work with local residents to brighten up the neighbourhood and foster that community spirit that is so evident in the local area. The clean-up day is the first of what we hope will be a number of initiatives in Broadgreen and we’d love as many people as possible to take part.

“This focus on Broadgreen provides a genuine opportunity for the community to take a lead in improving the environment and building their thriving community. I hope there is continued interest and that a number of people attend the meeting on 20 May.”

Superintendent Guy Elkins, Swindon hub commander, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the pivotal role of community engagement in identifying and addressing local challenges.

Residents keen on learning more about the clean-up day and other upcoming activities in the area are encouraged to attend the community meeting on Monday, 20th May, to contribute to the ongoing efforts aimed at building a better, brighter Broadgreen.
