Local car retailer celebrates early award success for upcoming electric SUV

A Swindon car retailer is celebrating early recognition for one of this year’s most eagerly anticipated electric vehicles, after it received a major industry accolade ahead of its UK launch.

Waylands Volvo Swindon, based on Great Western Way, is marking the announcement that the forthcoming Volvo EX60 has won the Reader Award at the 2026 What Car? Awards. The category recognises the new model readers are most excited to see arrive in the year ahead, highlighting strong anticipation for the EX60 before it reaches UK showrooms later this year.

The fully electric premium mid-size SUV was officially unveiled in Sweden on 21 January, with the award announced just a day later. Although the EX60 has yet to go on sale in the UK, the early recognition reflects growing interest in Volvo’s next generation of electric vehicles.

Built on Volvo’s most advanced electric car architecture to date, the EX60 is set to combine Scandinavian design, intelligent technology and the latest safety features, reinforcing the brand’s reputation for innovation and build quality.

The model is expected to offer a best-in-class range of up to 500 miles, alongside ultra-fast charging capability, allowing the battery to charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in around 19 minutes.

Commenting on the award, What Car? judges said:
“The 2026 vote was the closest for years, highlighting the strength of the competition. However, it was the Volvo EX60 that ultimately pulled ahead, and it’s easy to see why when you look at its style and specifications.”

They added:
“Among premium brands, Volvo is undoubtedly setting the standard for interior quality at the moment. With first-rate build quality and materials that look and feel expensive, its cars stand out across the range. Its seats are also among the most comfortable and supportive at any price.”

The EX60’s win contributed to a strong overall performance for Volvo at the awards, with several other models recognised for design, interior quality and usability.

Luke Rodriguez, from Waylands Volvo Swindon, said the award was an encouraging sign ahead of the model’s arrival.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see the Volvo EX60 receive such a positive response even before it arrives in the UK. It’s great that the excitement we feel is shared by What Car? readers and drivers across the country.

“Although customers will have to wait a little longer to see the EX60 in our showroom and on Swindon’s roads, this award gives a strong indication of the innovation, design and technology they can expect later this year.

“We’re also pleased to see so many other Volvo models recognised, reflecting the strength of our current line-up here in Swindon.”
