After resigning as Prime Minister earlier this afternoon, Liz Truss will be entitled to claim up to £115,000 for the rest of her life.
Despite being prime minister for less than two months, and confirming her place in the history book as the shortest serving Prime Minister in British history, she will be entitled to claim the Public Duties Cost Allowance (PDCA) so long as she remains “active in public life” and “fulfil public duties.”
After serving just 44 days in office, she smashed the previous record set by George Canning, who died in 1827 after 119..
The PDCA was setup by John Major in 1991 when he was prime minister and according to the government website is: “A reimbursement of incurred expenses for necessary office costs and secretarial costs arising from their special position in public life.
“The allowance is not paid to support private or parliamentary duties.
“The PDCA is in addition to any constituency office which they may maintain as a Member of Parliament.”
