Lethbridge Primary School in Swindon is making all the right noises after being named a Lead School for music education by the Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire (GSW) Music Hub. One of only seven schools to receive this honour across the region, it marks a proud moment for a school where music isn’t just a lesson, but a way of life.
Lisa Mayes, Headteacher of Lethbridge Primary, was quick to credit the whole school community: “We are incredibly proud to be named a Lead School, and that we have been recognised for the outstanding quality of our music education. From our vibrant termly productions and our very own mini rock band, to whole-class instrument sessions and the teaching of formal notation, music is truly at the heart of Lethbridge life.”
This new status brings with it a host of opportunities – not just for pupils at Lethbridge, but across the wider educational network. The school will now support others in the region, sharing expertise and helping to improve access to high-quality music teaching for all. This includes delivering Continuing Professional Development for teachers, offering in-school support, and working alongside fellow Music Hub partners to raise the profile of music across local education settings.
Lisa Mayo, representing the Consortium Executive Team for the GSW Music Hub, said the appointment of Lethbridge ties directly into the Department for Education’s wider ambitions: “This initiative strengthens the relationship between local schools and academy trusts, fostering peer-to-peer learning. Our Lead Schools will become both delivery partners and co-creators in shaping a better, more collaborative approach to music education.”
The recognition reflects the school’s commitment to ensuring every child has the chance to experience the joy, discipline, and expression that comes through learning music. Whether it’s a Year 3 pupil learning to play the ukulele or Year 6 students performing in their summer show, the school’s music offering continues to go from strength to strength.
As part of its Lead School role, Lethbridge Primary will now help identify and tackle the specific needs of local schools, championing inclusive music-making and supporting a more connected community of educators.
It’s another big step forward for a school that doesn’t just teach music – it lives it.
