Lawn Manor Academy pupils are set to demonstrate that it’s not always a ‘hard knock life’ as they prepare to open this year’s school performance of the musical Annie.
With performances scheduled for the 10th and 11th of July, the production features a talented cast of pupils from Years 7 to 11, showcasing their impressive singing and dancing abilities.
Since its debut in the 1970s, Annie has been a sell-out sensation on Broadway and the West End. The musical tells the heartwarming story of Annie, an orphan searching for her parents and ultimately finding a new home with billionaire Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks.
Dave Jones, Head of Expressive Arts at Lawn Manor Academy, expressed his enthusiasm for the production: “This year’s show is set to be fantastic, and we’ve got a great cast of budding stars who will rival the best professional performances.”
Year 8 pupil Makanaka will play the title role of Annie, while Year 11 pupil Eva takes on the character of Miss Hannigan, and Year 9 pupil Logan will portray Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks.
“We’ve assembled a really strong cast for this year’s show,” continued Dave. “They’ve been rehearsing diligently over the past few weeks, and their enthusiasm has brought the stage to life. It’s been incredible to see how they’ve embraced their roles.”
Performing a well-known and beloved musical like Annie is ambitious for a school production, but the team is confident that each night will offer a memorable evening of entertainment for all.
Tickets for the performances are now on sale and can be purchased directly from the school. For more information about Lawn Manor Academy, which is part of the Ascend Learning Trust, visit www.lawnmanor.org.
