Nine pupils from Lawn Manor Academy have made their mark on the literary world with gripping short stories that explore the chaos of the end of the world.
These young writers have won a competition to have their short stories, Mission Chaos, Marvellous Myths, published in a book celebrating the country’s best young writers which is now available on bookshelves nationwide and housed in the British Library.

The Young Writers Mission Chaos competition challenges school-aged participants to craft mini sagas of no more than 100 words.
With “chaos” as their theme, the Lawn Manor Academy students let their imaginations run wild. Their stories spanned topics such as post-apocalyptic survival, robotic wars, government overthrows, and a solar storm ending civilisation.
25 pupils submitted their stories to the competition, with the winning entries coming from Year 8 pupils Deborah , Hope and Jyanca, as well as Year 9 pupils Metin and Crystal and Year 10 pupils Ayesha, Anikait, Oliver and Rofiat.
Ellen Logan, English Teacher at Lawn Manor Academy, expressed her pride in the students’ achievements: ; “We were really impressed by the quality of all of the entries from Lawn Manor Academy pupils and even with such a short word count they all managed to build a great feeling of suspense and excitement within their stories.
“To be a published author whilst still at school is a wonderful achievement. Not only will the Lawn Manor Academy library proudly display the book and inspire many more young writers, but a copy will be added to the collection at the British Library where it will be kept forever. To think that our pupils’ writing will be sharing the same space as great writers like William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Charlotte Brontë is a testament to the talent and imagination of our pupils and we’re so proud of them.”
Lawn Manor Academy, part of the Ascend Learning Trust, is proud of its students’ achievements and encourages other young writers to pursue their creative passions.
