Last Chance for Covid-19 Protection: Community Vaccination Clinics Still Available in Swindon, and Wiltshire

Residents of Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset who haven’t received their Covid-19 vaccine yet have one final opportunity to do so.

A series of community vaccination clinics will be held this week, offering first and second doses, as well as spring booster jabs for eligible individuals.

After Friday 30th June, vaccinations will be limited to seasonal drives, targeting the most at-risk individuals.

Gill May, Director of Nursing at Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, emphasised the importance of ensuring anyone who wishes to be vaccinated has the chance to do so.

“It’s fantastic that the majority of people in our region have had the recommended number of Covid-19 vaccines, but we want to make sure anyone who wants their jab before it’s too late is able to do so,” she said.

“These community clinics will be open all day, and the friendly teams will be on hand not only to give the vaccines, but to also talk through any concerns people may have, and to provide those coming along with informed and reliable information.”

The first community clinic will be held at Emery Gate Shopping Centre in Chippenham on today, and is followed on Wednesday 28th June by sessions at Salisbury’s Central Health Clinic and Spencer’s Sport and Social Club in Melksham.

West Swindon Health Centre and the Salvation Army in Bath will host the final community clinics on Thursday 29th June.

The clinics will provide information, address concerns, and administer vaccines throughout the day.

Pre-booking appointments or walk-ins are both options for those seeking vaccination. Local pharmacies and GP practices will also cease providing vaccinations after 30 June.

Steve Maddern, Director of Public Health at Swindon Borough Council, urged individuals to take advantage of the opportunity and get vaccinated as vaccines are the best defense against the virus.

“As the offer to get a Covid-19 vaccine comes to an end, I would urge those who have not yet come forward to choose to have their Covid-19 vaccines.

“It takes minutes to get the jab and there are lots of options locally for accessing them.

“Vaccines are the best line of defence against the virus. It’s quick and easy, so I would urge people to get theirs before the offer closes.”

The next vaccination drive is scheduled for autumn, targeting specific groups at times of higher infection rates.
