Swindon’s popular Science Café returns on Tuesday, 5th November 2024, with an insightful and engaging evening centred on one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change.
The event, held from 7-9 pm, welcomes the highly respected Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh, MBE, an environmental psychologist from the University of Bath, to lead the discussion.
The theme of the evening is “How Can We Engage People with Climate Change?”, promising a lively, informal atmosphere where everyone can explore ideas on this critical topic.
Professor Whitmarsh is no stranger to the climate change conversation. As the Director of the UK Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST), she has a wealth of expertise in understanding how people perceive and respond to climate change. Her work has guided governments and organisations on how to encourage low-carbon behaviour change. She has contributed to numerous significant studies on subjects like energy efficiency, meat consumption, and electric vehicles. She was also a lead author for the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report and worked closely with Climate Assembly UK.
During the event, attendees will have the chance to dive into discussions about what individuals can do to address climate change and how to inspire behaviour change. Whether you’re deeply passionate about environmental issues or simply curious, the Science Café offers a relaxed environment to join the conversation, without the need for any prior scientific knowledge. Just bring your curiosity and, if you like, your own refreshments. A selection of light snacks will be available in return for donations.
Walk-ups are welcome, though registration is appreciated to help organisers gauge numbers. The Science Café is an informal event where you can enjoy a drink and engage in a two-way conversation with a leading researcher, making it a fantastic opportunity for anyone eager to learn more about science and its real-world impact.
Don’t miss out on this chance to hear from one of the UK’s leading voices on climate change and get involved in the discussion.
