The streets of Swindon glowed with warmth and remembrance on Saturday night as more than 670 dedicated walkers took part in Prospect Hospice’s annual Starlight Walk, raising an impressive £108,000 so far to support vital hospice care across Swindon and north east Wiltshire.
Now celebrating its 17th year, the Starlight Walk has firmly established itself as a cherished community tradition. Walkers gathered at The Deanery Academy before embarking on their journey beneath the stars, each step taken in memory of loved ones, in celebration of life, and in support of the compassionate work carried out by Prospect Hospice.
Thanks to the generosity of Imagine Cruising, who sponsored the event, participants were able to don glowing accessories and personalised t-shirts, transforming the route into a moving river of light and remembrance.
Among those walking was Sarah James, taking part for the third time in honour of her late mother, who received care from Prospect Hospice.
“The atmosphere is so uplifting. Walking with others who’ve experienced loss and knowing we’re helping more families get the care they need – it means everything. The hospice was there for us when we needed them most.”
As the evening unfolded, a powerful sense of unity filled the air. Onlookers lined the streets to cheer on the walkers, while drivers showed their support with friendly toots of their horns. The night’s energy was a stirring testament to the community’s shared commitment to ensuring local families receive the support they deserve during the most difficult times.
Jeremy Lune, Chief Executive at Prospect Hospice, expressed his gratitude:
“Seeing so many people come together to support our hospice was incredibly moving. The funds raised will make a real difference to local patients and their families. We rely on the generosity of our community, and the Starlight Walk is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together.”
With donations still coming in over the next few weeks, every penny raised will go directly towards providing free specialist care and support for people living with life-limiting illnesses.
