A massive inferno engulfed an Evri parcel warehouse near Bristol, prompting a swift response from firefighters.
The distribution centre, situated on Boundary Road in Avonmouth, unleashed billows of dense black smoke visible from the M5 motorway.
At approximately 1:30 pm, 16 fire crews dashed to the scene, urging locals to keep their windows and doors shut as a precautionary measure.
Despite around 30 staff members being present in the warehouse at the time, all were safely evacuated, according to an Evri spokesperson.
Avon Fire and Rescue issued a statement: “We currently have 16 appliances in attendance at a warehouse fire in Avonmouth. If you live and work in the local area, we’d advise you to keep your windows and doors shut. More updates to follow.”
Meanwhile, the South Western Ambulance Service dispatched a commander and hazardous area response team to the scene following the 13:52 pm distress call concerning the warehouse fire in Avonmouth.
Addressing the incident, a spokesperson for Evri assured, “Fire services attended a fire at our Avonmouth depot earlier today. All colleagues on site are safe, and the fire has now been extinguished. Our primary concern has been ensuring the safety of all colleagues.”
They continued, “The cause of the fire will be fully investigated in due course. Fortunately, there were very few parcels at the site at the time, with the vast majority of outbound deliveries having already left the building.”
“In light of the situation, we have swiftly arranged alternative arrangements to mitigate disruption to deliveries scheduled over the next few days,” they added.
