Talented musicians at Highworth Warneford School have raised £121 for Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service (SDASS) by holding a special free lunchtime concert and two school-wide shows.
The funds will support families fleeing domestic abuse in the Swindon area.
Double Helix, a rock band of Year 10 pupils featuring vocalists Ruby and Evie, guitarists Adiyath, Alessandro, and Alex, drummer Albert, and bassists Jhomer and Archer, performed at the events. The initiative was Ruby’s idea, who wanted to dedicate a gig to SDASS.
James Hanson, Head of Music at Highworth Warneford School, said, “Music is a big thing at the school, and we hold 2 or 3 gigs a term, as well as a big annual concert.
Most of our performances have a charity attached to them, and we have a great range of styles, from classical and rock to musical theatre.”
The school’s music department is busy, offering lessons on various instruments, including violin, trumpet, flute, and harp, with 15 instrumental teachers.
Charlotte Gibbon, Victim Services Manager at SDASS, expressed gratitude for the donations, stating, “Donations like these go a long way to make a difference to the families we support in the refuge and in the community, helping them escape and recover from domestic abuse.”
Rock band Double Helix will perform at the WrdeUp Festival on 6 July, and vocalist Ruby will be at the Highworth May Day Event on 4 May.
