Upon receiving the confirmation letter from Buckingham Palace, Emma Griffiths, CEO of The Friends, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Her Majesty’s continued support as our patron. Her endorsement will undoubtedly amplify our efforts to raise awareness about our vital conservation work and secure future funding for the Arboretum.”

This prestigious announcement follows a recent invitation from His Majesty The King to attend a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 21 May. Representing The Friends at this esteemed event were Emma Griffiths and Jo Murray, who mingled with members of the Royal Family and community leaders, celebrating individuals making positive impacts on their communities.

The Friends have been actively supporting Westonbirt Arboretum through various initiatives, including the recent allocation of funds to update and replace the fleet of mobility scooters and wheelchairs, thus improving accessibility for all visitors. Additionally, the charity has spearheaded the establishment of a community woodland, with 600 individuals from local schools and community groups contributing to the planting of 3,300 trees over the winter months.

Looking ahead, The Friends are embarking on exciting new ventures, such as enhancing play facilities at the arboretum, with public input solicited through a recent consultation. Furthermore, the charity is delighted to welcome two new members to its Board of Trustees: Sarah Bryars, a seasoned PR executive, and Sam Addadahine, bringing expertise in digital technology and software development.

Emma Griffiths expressed optimism for the future of the organisation, remarking, “It’s an exhilarating time for our organisation as we celebrate our royal patronage and welcome our new trustees. Together, we are committed to realising our mission of securing a sustainable future for the Westonbirt Arboretum.”
