Families can step into the deep dark wood this October half term when Gruffalo Granny comes to Westonbirt, The National Arboretum.
Forestry England is teaming up with Macmillan Children’s Books to celebrate the launch of Gruffalo Granny, the latest story from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo.
A free Welcome to Storytime with Gruffalo Granny event will take place at Westonbirt on Wednesday 28 October, with storytelling, family activities and a special appearance by the Gruffalo himself.
Children will be able to hear the new story brought to life through interactive storytelling before taking part in themed activities inspired by the book.
There will also be opportunities to meet the Gruffalo, while activity booklets will allow children to continue the adventure after leaving the arboretum.
Copies of Gruffalo Granny will be available to buy at participating events.
The timing also gives families the chance to experience Westonbirt at one of the most colourful points of the year.
The arboretum’s autumn display should provide a backdrop of changing leaves, with children able to explore the woodland, look for fallen leaves and discover the sights and sounds of the season.
The event marks a new chapter in Forestry England’s long association with the Gruffalo and the characters created by Donaldson and Scheffler. Forestry England sites have hosted Gruffalo-themed activities for many years through its partnership with Magic Light.
Gruffalo Granny arrives 22 years after the publication of The Gruffalo’s Child and introduces another adventure in the much-loved series.
There is no need to book for the Westonbirt event. Storytelling sessions and Gruffalo meet-and-greets will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Families are advised to arrive early as sessions may become busy.
