Construction of hundreds more homes in Warminster is set to move forward after planning permission was granted for the latest phase of the town’s largest housing development.
Housebuilder Persimmon Homes Wessex has secured approval for the fourth phase of its Jubilee Gardens scheme on the western edge of the town, paving the way for the construction of 266 new homes.
The latest approval increases the total number of homes granted planning permission across the development to 772, with further phases expected in the future.
The expansion forms part of ongoing efforts to meet housing demand in Warminster, where significant residential growth has taken place in recent years. Developers say the latest phase will include a mix of private and affordable housing, with 61 homes earmarked for a local housing association.
Once the entire development is completed, around 300 affordable homes are expected to be delivered across the site, providing additional options for local residents and helping to ease pressure on the area’s housing market.
Alongside the new homes, the approved plans include further investment in public amenities and green spaces. A large area of public open space will complete a linear park first envisioned during the earlier stages of the project, creating a continuous green corridor through the development.
Environmental measures also form part of the plans, with ecological features including bird and bat boxes set to be installed across the site.
The development is being delivered by Persimmon Homes Wessex, with its sister brand, Charles Church, also expected to build homes within the fourth phase.
The wider Jubilee Gardens scheme includes a range of community facilities planned for future delivery, including sports pitches, changing rooms, allotments and dedicated ecology areas.
As well as increasing housing supply, the project is expected to generate substantial financial contributions towards local infrastructure. Developers say the newly approved phase alone will result in a significant Community Infrastructure Levy payment, helping to fund services and facilities required to support the town’s growth.
Work on previous phases of the development is already well advanced, with three and four-bedroom homes currently available for purchase. Additional two-bedroom properties are expected to be released for sale in the coming months.
Commenting on the approval, Seb Spiller said the decision reflected the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering new homes and supporting infrastructure in Warminster.
He said the housebuilder was focused on creating a lasting legacy through both housing and community facilities, adding that the company was looking forward to beginning work on the next phase of the development.
Mr Spiller also highlighted the firm’s continuing partnership with Wiltshire Council in helping to meet housing needs across the county.
The latest approval represents another significant milestone for Jubilee Gardens, which remains one of the largest residential developments currently under construction in Wiltshire.
