Mark your calendars for the much-anticipated ‘Homecoming’ weekend on Saturday, 16th, and Sunday, 17th December, as Swindon Wildcats prepare for thrilling ice hockey action.
The reopening of the ice rink at Swindon’s Link Centre is happening sooner than expected, thanks to the remarkable efforts of the dedicated Link Centre staff and the invaluable support of Swindon Borough Council.
The doors are set to swing open to the public on the 18th of December, just in time for the Swindon Wildcats’ first home matches on the exciting weekend of the 16th and 17th of December.
Councillor Jim Grant, the Cabinet Member for Communities and Joint Working at Swindon Borough Council, expressed his satisfaction with the collaborative effort, stating, “I am really pleased we were able to step in and help GLL get the Link Centre back up and running sooner than anticipated because the leisure centre is such an important facility for the whole of Swindon.”
The new ice installation incorporates cutting-edge technology that not only enhances efficiency but also reduces energy usage, aligning with Swindon Borough Council’s mission to Achieve Net Zero.
Councillor Grant added, “The real driver for us was we knew the Swindon Wildcats had major concerns about the impact on them if the ice rink wasn’t replaced before the end of the year, and that we needed to act immediately. The fact we have been able to procure the technology so quickly means we have also helped secure their future, which is fantastic news for all concerned.”
