In a display of intergenerational unity, residents of Royal Wootton Bassett, along with pupils from Longleaze Primary School, came together to bury a time capsule at the site of Anchor’s care home near Jubilee Lake.
This event, held on the 13th of May 2024, marked a momentous occasion as memories from the past were preserved for the future.

The capsule, is filled with treasures encapsulating life in the early 21st century. Among its contents were letters written by the pupils, a COVID test symbolising the challenges faced, school badges representing pride and unity, and even an iPod Nano, offering a glimpse into our technological era.
Those who uncover the time capsule will also find photographs and documents relating to Anchor’s care home which offers first class residential and dementia care for up to 66 residents.
Accompanied by the sounds of The Crown Singers from Brinkworth, the burial ceremony was a joyous affair and even included a specially baked cake. Mrs. Laura Oakes, headteacher at Longleaze Primary School, expressed her delight at the project, highlighting its profound impact on the children’s understanding of community and respect for older generations.
“Working on the contents of the time capsule has been a great project for the children and their reflections have been thought-provoking, inspiring and entertaining.” she sid.
“It’s been a wonderful opportunity for them to engage with different generations and understand the importance of looking after older people in the community. I am particularly heartened to think of members of the local community in the future reading letters from our pupils and learning about our life in 2024.”
Mayor Councillor Eve Silvester commended the pupils for their contributions, acknowledging the significance of their insights for future generations. The event not only celebrated the richness of life in 2024 but also shed light on the importance of bridging the gap between different age groups.
Marietta Cranfield, Marsh Farm Manor Manager, said: “We were thrilled to welcome the children from the local school and the Mayor to our new state of the art care home.” “At Anchor helping people enjoy later life is our passion and we are delighted to be able to engage with the local community to celebrate bringing a new home to the area. Proudly not-for-profit, we work hard to meet the needs and expectations of our residents and we hope they enjoyed marking this event with us.”
