Fruity Bliss marks first year at The Brunel after doubling turnover

A family-run fruit and vegetable stall at Swindon’s Brunel Shopping Centre is celebrating its first anniversary after doubling its turnover in just 12 months.

Fruity Bliss opened inside The Brunel a year ago and has quickly become a familiar stop for shoppers, building a loyal customer base that stretches well beyond Swindon. Regulars now travel in from towns including Newbury and Bristol to visit the stall.

Owner Adam Birou said the response to the Swindon outlet has exceeded his expectations.

“The stall in The Brunel is my fourth outlet, and it’s been a really positive experience,” he said. “It’s a great location, it’s always busy, and the people are lovely. We have many regular customers who come in several times a week. While lots are local, some travel from places like Newbury and Bristol.

“My turnover at The Brunel has doubled since opening, which shows there’s real potential here and gives me confidence about opening a second outlet in Swindon.”

Adam, who is originally from Egypt, has worked as a greengrocer for 12 years and also runs fruit and vegetable businesses in Slough, Oxford and Hackney. Several members of his family are involved in the business, which he describes as very much a shared effort.

Now living in Swindon, Adam says the town has become home.

“I’ve lived in Slough and Southampton since coming to the UK, but Swindon is where I’ve settled,” he said. “The people are friendly and welcoming, and I really enjoy being here.”

Fruity Bliss sources its produce from wholesale markets in London, including Spitalfields, and offers a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables. Alongside everyday staples, the stall also stocks more unusual produce from Africa, the Caribbean and Asia. Despite the variety, Adam says traditional favourites like apples and tomatoes remain the most popular.

Tim Knowles, Managing Director at FI Real Estate Management, praised the stall’s success.

“It’s fantastic to see businesses like Fruity Bliss doing so well at The Brunel,” he said. “Stalls offering quality produce and attracting strong footfall play an important role in creating a lively and welcoming shopping environment.”
