Free family fun returns to Swindon Designer Outlet with Festival of Tomorrow

Families in Swindon are in for a treat this month as McArthurGlen Swindon Designer Outlet gears up to host another fantastic round of free activities in collaboration with the Festival of Tomorrow. Running from 15th to 23rd February, the shopping destination will transform into an interactive learning hub, offering engaging experiences designed to entertain and educate visitors of all ages.

This year’s event brings an exciting line-up of hands-on activities, focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). From sound-based installations to deep-sea discoveries, there’s something to spark curiosity in everyone.

Key Activities to Look Forward To:

  • Sonic Body Lab (15th – 23rd February) – A fusion of music, movement, and technology, this sound installation allows visitors to generate music through body movement while learning about sound sculptures.
  • Incredible Oceans (15th – 20th February) – Located in the Ocean Dome, this interactive exhibit showcases marine artefacts, including an orca skull and shark jaws. A special ‘Drawing from the Deep’ workshop (2-3pm daily) gives participants the chance to sketch an orca skull while learning fascinating marine biology facts.
  • Sea-Creature Superpowers Trail (15th – 23rd February) – A fun-filled self-guided adventure around the centre. Pick up an activity sheet at Guest Services and explore the hidden superpowers of sea creatures, with prizes up for grabs!
  • Noisy Toys Science Busking (19th – 21st February) – Prepare for lively demonstrations featuring upcycled instruments and interactive sound experiments roaming the centre.
  • Dance Roots Africa (22nd February) – A high-energy performance blending traditional African dance with contemporary hip-hop, promising an unforgettable spectacle.
  • Prime Theatre Young Street Theatre Science Buskers (Dates TBC) – Young performers bring science to life through engaging street acts, making learning a theatrical experience.
  • Animal Behaviour Society (15th February) – Visitors can enjoy hands-on mask-making and insightful discussions with real researchers, offering a glimpse into the fascinating world of animal behaviour.
