There has always been a couple of difficult factors to juggle when it comes to air travel. On the one hand you want the convenience and comfort of such an effective means of transport. On the other you are aware that aircraft are far from the most friendly method when it comes to protecting the environment. The answer is that whilst you can’t currently change the fact that the industry consumes a huge amount of fossil fuel, you could offset the use of those fuels against other, more environmentally progressive, projects as a balance. And that is exactly what jet charter booking service Victor is doing.
The scheme is very simple. When a customer of Victor uses their website or app to search for a flight, they will be alerted to which ones are part of the scheme by an indicating logo. Once they book such a flight a number of carbon credits will be added to their digital flight log. These credits relate to the amount of fuel which has been burned during their travels and can be checked quarterly on the system. But these credits are where the negative of fuel use turns into a positive for the world at large.
Once earned the digital credits enter the real world. Victor has teamed up with BP Target Neutral which is an off-shoot of BP multinational gas and oil business who invest in low carbon projects around the world and the carbon credits are turned into real money to help these projects. These include cooking stoves in Mexico and Peru to discourage the use of open fires, biodigesters in China and India to break down animal waste into usable energy, and the promoting off low-carbon gas alternatives in the United States among others.
So you can now fly the green and friendly skies knowing that you are also doing something to help the environment. But it doesn’t stop there as Victor also has many suggestions for environmentally friendly destinations. You could head for Lake Garda in Italy and spend a relaxing break at a wonderful carbon-offset Lefay resort or visit La Granja in Ibiza, which operates projects to help farmers grow sustainable crops and fund local art and music. And there are many more besides.
Air travel may still come with some environmental issues but things are changing and with Victor hoping to have all its flights carbon neutral by 2020 you can fly guilt free in the knowledge that your footprint is totally clean.
