Empowering Success: Lawn Manor Academy Celebrates Unprecedented Girls’ Football Season

Last summer’s triumphant Lionesses success continues to inspire and leave a lasting impact, particularly at Lawn Manor Academy, where the spirit of achievement still reverberates. The academy recently marked its most successful girls’ football season in history, a testament to the lasting legacy of the Lionesses.

Football has undoubtedly captured the hearts of students at Lawn Manor Academy, with the school fielding three teams this year – Year Seven, Under 14s, and Under 16s. The teams dedicated themselves to weekly training sessions after school, honing their skills and fostering a strong sense of teamwork. Under the guidance of PE teacher and former professional footballer Sarah Gregory, the girls experienced remarkable growth and success on the pitch.

Lawn Manor Academy participated in the Swindon schools girls’ football tournament, reaching the final for the first time and securing an impressive second-place finish.

Sarah Gregory explained: “Football has definitely increased in popularity and we’ve had more pupils coming to training who have been influenced by the women’s team this season.

“There’s a lot of talented footballers in the school and we’re so proud of the girls’ team doing so well and getting to the final for the first time.  A number of our girls have also been selected to play for local teams and even clubs including Swindon Town and the Swindon Spitfires.

“Being part of the Swindon Schools sports allows us to offer year-round opportunities for pupils to take part in competitive fixtures.  Each season includes training, fixtures, and a final in sports including netball, football, basketball, and rounders, and so pupils can try their hand at lots of different sports and skills.”
