Emily’s Date With Destiny as Giraffe Photo Picked for Longleat Calendar

A stunning photograph taken by Wiltshire resident Emily Dodd has been selected to feature in Longleat’s official 2026 calendar, after being chosen from more than 2,000 entries.

Her striking image of a tower of giraffes surveying the iconic safari park impressed judges, securing its place in the celebratory edition marking Longleat’s 60th anniversary.

The competition, which was open to the public via social media, saw an overwhelming response from visitors keen to showcase their own unique perspectives of the park’s wildlife. After careful consideration, a panel of expert judges selected a shortlist of five finalists, before crowning Emily’s giraffe shot as the winner.

Alison Maynard, Longleat’s head of retail and lead judge, praised the quality of submissions and explained why Emily’s image stood out: “They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and Emily’s photo truly captured the essence of Longleat. The level of creativity and passion displayed in this competition was extraordinary, making it a tough decision. We’re thrilled to feature her image in our special anniversary calendar.”

Joining Alison on the judging panel were Tom Anders, Longleat’s resident photographer and videographer, and Ian Turner, Animal Department Media Coordinator and keen photographer. The shortlisted images included a leaping koala, a prehensile-tailed porcupine, and two breathtaking shots of Longleat’s famous lions.

To celebrate their achievement, Emily will receive a copy of the calendar along with a complimentary day out at Longleat. The four shortlisted photographers have also been invited to enjoy a special day at the park as a token of appreciation for their outstanding contributions.

Alison added: “We’re delighted to announce that the other shortlisted entries will also be featured on Longleat merchandise, ensuring these incredible images get the recognition they deserve.”

Longleat’s 2026 calendar, featuring Emily’s winning shot, will be available for purchase later this year, allowing visitors to take home a piece of the park’s spectacular wildlife moments.
