Swindon St George 18 Birmingham Bulldogs 56
In what proved to be a challenging home debut in the Midlands Premier Rugby League, Swindon St George displayed resilience despite a heavy defeat to Birmingham Bulldogs.

The game began promisingly for the Dragons, but the visitors soon established their dominance, scoring three tries in a blistering 25-minute spell. Undeterred, St George responded with a fine effort from John Jewell, swiftly followed by Nathan Hayes crossing over, resulting in a half-time scoreline of 8-18.
The second half commenced with another Bulldogs score from a breakaway. Swindon, however, remained determined. Jamie Davison powered over on the last tackle of the set, keeping the home scoreboard ticking. Despite this, fatigue set in, and Birmingham sealed the match with six late tries. The Dragons’ final reply came from Josh Palmer, with John Jewell adding the extra two points.
Head Coach Richard White remained positive about his young squad, highlighting the impressive performances of three 17-year-olds, including two debutants. “For such a young and inexperienced line-up, we showed enormous promise,” he enthused.
“The way they all worked for each other and went toe-to-toe with very physical opponents gives me great optimism.” White further expressed his belief that a top-four play-off spot is attainable for the Dragons and affirmed the team’s commitment to achieving this goal.

Choosing from a string of superb performances, Coach White awarded the man of the match to Jamie Davison and Chris Toon for their exceptional efforts in both defence and attack.
Next, the Dragons turn their attention to their upcoming contest, a visit to Sherwood Wolf Hunt on Saturday, 1st June at Debdale Park in Nottinghamshire.
