Residents across Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset are being reminded to organise their prescriptions ahead of the Easter weekend to avoid last-minute rushes for vital medication.
With most pharmacies in the region set to close on Thursday 28th March and remain shut until Tuesday 2nd April, it’s crucial to ensure prescription requests are made in advance to allow ample time for processing and collection.
Gill May, Chief Nurse of the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, talked about the importance of avoiding medication shortages, especially during holidays when pharmacies may be closed. Letting prescriptions run out can not only strain the healthcare system but also jeopardise the health of individuals, particularly those who are vulnerable.
“We want everyone in our region to have a safe and enjoyable Easter break,” May stated. “That’s why we’re urging people to plan ahead and order their prescriptions well in advance. Requesting a repeat prescription this week should ensure that most items are ready for collection with ample time before pharmacies close for the Easter weekend.”
Fortunately, ordering repeat prescriptions has never been easier, with digital options available through the NHS App or GP practice websites. The recent surge in local NHS App downloads indicates a positive trend towards patients taking more control over their healthcare needs.
For those not yet accustomed to digital prescription ordering, assistance is available by contacting their surgery directly.
While the majority of pharmacies will be closed over the Easter weekend, a select few will remain open on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday to cater to urgent prescription needs or offer advice for minor illnesses or injuries.
Easter opening hours for pharmacies will be announced in due course and shared on the Integrated Care Board’s website and social media platforms.
