Mitchell Malborn, 27, of Over Bridge, Over, Gloucester, has been handed a suspended prison sentence following an incident where he led police on a brief chase in Swindon.
Malborn pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving, using a vehicle without insurance, driving whilst disqualified, and failing to stop at Swindon Magistrates Court on February 28.
He received an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for one year, along with a 12-month driving disqualification. Additionally, he has been ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
The incident occurred during the afternoon of February 27th, 2024, when roads policing officers, stationed in Homington Avenue, Coate, Swindon, observed Malborn driving a Ford Transit Connect. Upon noticing the officers, Malborn accelerated, reaching speeds of 40mph in a 20mph speed limit zone.
Despite officers signaling for him to stop, Malborn failed to comply and continued driving at high speed. He eventually abandoned the vehicle in Rowden Close while it was still in motion, allowing it to collide with a bush near a residential property.
Following a foot chase, Malborn was apprehended and subsequently charged. He was held in custody overnight and appeared in court the following day.
PC Luke Hobbs commented: “Malborn’s reckless actions endangered the lives of other road users and pedestrians. Thankfully, no serious injuries occurred due to his irresponsible behavior. It is imperative that such conduct is met with appropriate consequences, and the sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense.”
