In a momentous occasion for Detective Superintendent Guy Elkins, he proudly takes the helm as the area commander for Swindon, the town he now calls home.
Reflecting on his policing journey, Elkins shares insights into the path that has led him to this pivotal role in safeguarding the town’s residents.
“My policing journey commenced in 2004 when I joined Dorset Police as a response officer in Poole. Fueled by a deep commitment to public service and a desire to positively impact people’s lives, I embarked on a career dedicated to upholding law and order.”
Over the years, Elkins has held diverse roles, spanning both uniformed policing and a specialisation in counterterrorism and serious and organised crime as a detective.
“After meeting my wife in 2014, I made the significant decision to relocate to Swindon, which has since become my cherished home. Joining Thames Valley Police, I’ve had the privilege of serving in Reading, Oxford, and as the Deputy Commander for South Oxfordshire in the Vale of White Horse.”
In 2022, driven by a passion for community service, Elkins joined Wiltshire Police, overseeing the Crime Standards and Justice Department. This role encompassed managing prosecutions in collaboration with the Crown Prosecution Service, supporting witnesses and victims, and overseeing firearms licensing.
Assuming the role of Swindon Area Commander is a position Elkins has long aspired to. “I am immensely proud to serve you as the Swindon Area Commander. My commitment to this community and the desire to contribute to the area I call home brought me here.”
Stepping into his new role, Elkins looks forward to engaging with Swindon’s diverse communities and building partnerships. Recognising challenges such as youth and gang violence, knife crime, and the need for robust victim support, his focus is on strengthening community policing and resilience. Collaboration with the business community is also a priority to develop strategies against crimes like commercial burglary and shoplifting.
“I am dedicated to ensuring Swindon is a safe and improved place to live. I am excited to work alongside our dedicated team and the community to achieve this shared goal.”
