A group of local friends has come together to organise a glamorous Black Tie Ball in aid of Prospect Hospice, a charity that provides essential care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Led by Tess Murphy from Blunsdon, the group—Clare Arthurs, Lucia Arthurs, and Nicky Rutter—will host the event on Saturday, 20th September 2025, at The Village Hotel, Shaw, Swindon. Guests can expect a red carpet arrival, a welcome drink, a three-course meal, entertainment, a raffle, and an auction. The team is working on additional special touches to ensure an unforgettable evening while raising much-needed funds. Tickets go on sale from 31st March 2025 for £55 each, with tables available for groups of 10 to 12.
Tess was inspired to organise the event after discovering that Prospect Hospice, which has the capacity for 16 beds, is currently only able to operate six due to funding constraints. Wanting to make a difference, she began donating items to the hospice’s charity shops and participating in their monthly draw. However, she felt compelled to do more.
“Hospice care is invaluable to both patients and their families when facing a terminal or life-limiting illness,” said Tess, who works as a support worker. “Organising an event like this is no small task, but with the support of my wonderful friends, we are determined to make it a great success. Of course, we can’t do it without the support of local businesses and the people who attend.”
Jeremy Lune, CEO of Prospect Hospice, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Every year, Prospect Hospice supports hundreds of families across Swindon and the surrounding areas through one of life’s hardest journeys. The funds raised by Tess, Clare, Lucia, and Nicky will help us continue to provide this crucial care. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and generosity.”
The funds raised will go towards services such as the hospice’s inpatient unit and Prospect@Home care service, ensuring more people receive the support they need at the most difficult times.
