Nestled within 33 acres of rolling countryside, Cricklade Hotel & Spa has added another string to its already impressive leisure bow – by unveiling North Wiltshire’s very first 18-hole disc golf course.
Building on the popularity of its original 9-hole course, the newly expanded layout offers a full 18-hole challenge for players of all levels – and becomes just the third course of its kind in the county.
The idea for the new course took flight after local disc golf enthusiasts Adam Barlow and Jamie Matthews approached Cricklade Hotel’s General Manager, Neil Parry, with a bold vision: make the most of the hotel’s stunning landscape and create something unique for Wiltshire.
“Disc golf is growing in popularity, not just here in the UK but around the world,” Neil explains. “It made perfect sense to invest in its development. Our grounds are ideal – scenic, spacious, and varied – and now players can enjoy a full 18-hole experience right here in Cricklade.”
For those unfamiliar, disc golf combines the precision of traditional golf with the joy of throwing a frisbee. The aim is simple – navigate each hole in as few throws as possible, with baskets acting as the targets. It’s active, social, and just the right amount of competitive.
Open to all ages and abilities, the course includes various tee positions to cater for everyone from complete beginners to seasoned throwers. Whether you’re planning a family outing, looking for a new weekend challenge, or simply want a different way to enjoy the outdoors, this course offers something refreshing.
Adam Barlow, who alongside Jamie Matthews helped redesign the course and fund the additional baskets, believes Cricklade’s new set-up is something special: “Disc golf challenges your skill, focus and creativity – and doing that in a setting as beautiful as Cricklade makes it even more memorable. This is more than just a course; it’s an experience.”
Jamie agrees, adding: “It’s one of those sports that’s easy to try but endlessly rewarding. We’re proud to have helped bring this to life and hope more people discover the joy it brings.”
Once the discs are down, guests can refuel at the hotel’s Conservatory Terrace, with a new summer menu and wood-fired pizzas on offer at weekends – the perfect mid-round break or celebratory end to a session.
