Could You Offer a Forever Home to a Gentle Giant?

Dog lovers across the South West are being invited to open their homes to some of the biggest hearts in the canine world, as The Cinnamon Trust looks to place several large breed dogs into long-term foster homes.

The Cornwall-based charity, best known for supporting elderly and terminally ill pet owners, says an increasing number of larger dogs are now in its care and in need of space, stability and a second chance.

“As part of our promise to provide lifelong care, many of the pets entrusted to us eventually need a new, loving home,” explains Charlotte, Forever Fostering Co-ordinator at The Cinnamon Trust. “Larger breeds can be more challenging to place because they need room to stretch out, gardens where they can potter about, and people who are confident and kind enough to give them the time they deserve.”

Among the dogs currently waiting are German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labradors and Boxers — breeds often described as ‘gentle giants’, known for their loyalty, intelligence and affection.

Charlotte says every placement is handled with care. “Each pet has a story. Our forever fosterers are continuing the love those animals once had, and in return they get an extraordinary bond that’s hard to put into words.”

A Happy Tail: Kizzie’s Story

One such success story is Kizzie, who came into the Trust’s care after her owner became terminally ill. Thanks to a careful matching process, she found her forever home with John and Janet.

“Kizzie came to us just after her eighth birthday,” John says. “She’s an absolute darling — not just with us, but with everyone she meets. The support from The Cinnamon Trust has been brilliant. No question is ever too small, and we always feel backed up. She’s part of the family now and going nowhere.”

What Forever Fostering Involves

The Cinnamon Trust is keen to hear from experienced dog lovers who:

  • Have previously owned or worked with larger breeds

  • Enjoy an active lifestyle

  • Have enough indoor and outdoor space for a big dog

  • Can manage a strong, enthusiastic lead-puller with patience

Forever fosterers are fully supported by the charity, with all veterinary care and specialist diets covered, ongoing guidance from the Welfare Team, and holiday cover available when needed.

Those who feel their home could be the right fit for a gentle giant are encouraged to find out more.
