Local residents are being called to action for a community clean-up event aimed at revitalising the Broadgreen area.
Organised by the Swindon Community Safety Partnership (CSP) and officers from Swindon Borough Council, the clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, 29th June, and will take place from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
This initiative follows a successful community engagement day in March, where over 200 residents shared their thoughts on Broadgreen’s strengths and areas needing improvement. The feedback highlighted concerns about the local environment’s cleanliness, prompting this weekend’s event.
In response to community input, a week of action was previously conducted to address anti-social behaviour, dangerous driving, and drug offences, resulting in multiple arrests, fines, and vehicle seizures. Agencies like Wiltshire Police have maintained an active presence to support and protect the neighbourhood.
The clean-up event will start at Broadgreen Community Centre on Salisbury Street (SN1 2AN), where participants will be welcomed with free breakfast baps. Full training and guidance will be provided to ensure safe and effective litter collection. Children participating must be accompanied by an adult, and all attendees are advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
Councillor Jane Smith of Swindon Borough Council commented, “This clean-up effort is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come together and take pride in their community. It’s great to see such enthusiasm for improving Broadgreen, and we hope to see many people there on Saturday.”
