Closure Orders Secured for Swindon Stores Selling Illegal Vapes

Swift action by Swindon Central South Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has led to the successful closure of several stores on Manchester Road, Broadgreen, found to be selling illegal cigarettes and vapes.

Following a series of simultaneous warrants executed yesterday morning (19th November) with support from Trading Standards, HMRC, and Immigration Enforcement, officers seized over £55,000 worth of illicit cigarettes and vapes. Five people were arrested under the Trade Marks Act during the operation.

Court Action Secures Closure Orders

In a decisive step to protect public health and prevent further unlawful activity, the court granted Closure Orders for Kubus Polski Sklep and a related residential property. Interim Closure Orders were also issued for Istanbul Market and the Romanian and Polish Shop, pending a further court hearing.

These measures effectively bar entry to the properties, ensuring the premises cannot continue to pose a risk by selling illegal items.

Addressing Community Concerns

PC Butwell, from the Central South NPT, highlighted the importance of community feedback in tackling these issues: “Our role as a Neighbourhood Policing Team is to address local concerns. Residents raised serious worries about the ongoing illegal sales in these shops, prompting us to act swiftly. The Closure Orders represent a significant step in preventing further harm and maintaining the safety of our community.

“If anyone has information about illegal activity, we urge them to contact police on 101 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers. Together, we can take meaningful action.”

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the police.
