Recent comments from football finance journalist Kieran Maguire suggested a new prospective buyer had shown interest, but current owner Clem Morfuni has firmly dismissed the claims.
The Swindonian sat down for an early morning chat with Clem for a frank discussion about the speculation, his ownership, and his long-term commitment to the club.
Kieran Maguire has spoken about a new prospective buyer being in contact. What can you tell us about that?
“There has been no approach, none at all. I want to make that very clear. I’ve read what’s been said, but no one has come forward to make an official enquiry. Last season, yes, there was an interested party of African origin, but they could not provide proof of funds. An American family also had a brief conversation with us, but again, they weren’t in a position to take things forward financially. Since then, nothing. Absolutely nothing.”
Would you ever consider selling Swindon Town?
“I’ve said from day one, if a buyer comes forward who can prove they not only have the funds to purchase the club but also invest in the coming years, then I would listen. The club needs stability and proper investment to keep moving in the right direction. But I want fans to understand—I’m not looking to sell, and I won’t sell to someone who can’t demonstrate they’ve got the resources to take Swindon forward.”
You’ve faced criticism in the past. How do you reflect on your time as owner so far?
“I’ll be honest—mistakes have been made. I’ve never hidden from that. Running a football club isn’t easy, and you learn along the way. But my interest has always been the same: to provide a strong future for Swindon Town. I’m here for the long haul, and the progress we’ve made both on and off the pitch shows that. We’re top of the league, the club is stable, and I think fans can see the difference compared to where we were a few years ago.”
So the message to supporters is…?
“That I’m committed. I love this club, and I love the town. I want success for the supporters who’ve been through so much. There will always be speculation in football, but my focus is on building something sustainable here. We’ve got momentum, and now’s the time to keep pushing.”
Despite swirling rumours and whispers of takeover talks, Clem Morfuni remains clear—Swindon Town FC is not up for grabs. Unless the right buyer with genuine funds comes forward, Morfuni will remain at the helm, determined to see the Robins rise higher.
