The sessions are aimed at children aged four to eight, although older siblings are welcome to join them.

Each child will also receive a small Christmas gift to take home at the end of the session.

Story times will take place on 28 and 29 November, followed by 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 December. Sessions run between 10.20am and 2.45pm, with individual booking times available.

Tickets cost £10 per child and must be booked in advance, as spaces inside the historic dovecote are limited.

Christmas markets to showcase local gifts

The festive celebrations continue with Christmas markets in Avebury’s historic barn, where visitors can browse a range of locally sourced and artisan products.

The markets will run on 28 and 29 November, as well as 5, 6, 12 and 13 December, from 10am until 4pm.

Visitors can expect a selection of gift stalls, with classic carols and folk songs providing the soundtrack as they browse. The markets offer an opportunity to pick up Christmas presents while supporting local makers and independent traders.

Entry to the markets is free. Card payment facilities will be available, although visitors are advised to bring cash where possible.

Further information about the markets and the wider festive programme can be found on the National Trust’s Christmas at Avebury page.

With story time for younger visitors and festive stalls for those hoping to get some Christmas shopping done, Avebury is offering families a chance to enjoy a seasonal outing in one of Wiltshire’s best-known historic settings.
