Swindon’s STEAM Museum is set to sparkle this December as it welcomes visitors to its annual Christmas extravaganza. Following the success of last year’s sell-out event, the festivities will take place on Saturday, 7th and Sunday, 8th December, offering a magical experience for all ages.

This year’s event promises to be a festive wonderland, with over 55 artisan market stalls nestled among the museum’s GWR locomotives and displays.

Shoppers can browse an array of unique gifts and seasonal treats, including hand-crafted textiles, greeting cards, jewellery, cosmetics, home furnishings, artworks, Christmas confectionery, and decorations.

Your Holiday Starts Now

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying: “Christmas at STEAM is always a wonderful occasion at one of our most popular destinations. Not only do you get to enjoy the majesty of the trains on display, but you also get into the festive spirit with the Christmas market, music, and Santa’s story time. If you’re looking for something festive to fill up your December weekend, Christmas at STEAM is the perfect event for you.”

Festive Entertainment

Visitors can soak up the Christmas atmosphere with live music and performances on the Great Western Hall stage. The Christmas Café will also be open serving up festive favourites to help get everyone in the seasonal spirit.

For the younger visitors, Santa will be making a special appearance during his story-time sessions. These 20-minute gatherings will feature a festive tale and a wrapped gift for each child, set in an atmospheric fireplace setting. Sessions cost £10 per child (plus event admission) and allow up to two accompanying adults to attend for free. Advance booking is recommended as these sessions are extremely popular.

Plan Your Visit

Admission to Christmas at STEAM is priced at just £3.50 for adults and £1 for children aged three to 15, with under-threes going free. Tickets include entry to both the event and the museum, offering visitors a chance to explore the fascinating history of the Great Western Railway alongside the Christmas cheer.

The STEAM Shop will also be open, showcasing an impressive range of gifts, from GWR-themed socks and books to stocking fillers and railway souvenirs.

Visitors are encouraged to secure tickets online in advance to avoid disappointment.

Christmas at STEAM is the perfect way to kick-start the festive season with family and friends. Whether you’re shopping for unique gifts, enjoying live entertainment, or savouring a festive treat, this event is guaranteed to bring holiday cheer to all who attend.
