Noremarsh Junior School in Royal Wootton Bassett recently played host to a remarkable Careers Week, bringing together professionals from all walks of life to open young eyes to the world beyond the classroom.
From the buzz of the fire service to the calm precision of neonatal care, the school welcomed a wide variety of visitors — each with a story to tell and a passion to share.

Among them were a personal trainer from Nuffield Health, author Jo Stacey, a zoological specialist from Sea World, a neonatologist, a postman, an electrician, a design engineer from the ISIS Science and Technology Facilities Council, a midwife, a local businesswoman, a music therapist, local firefighters, performers from Swindon Dance, and a design and technology teacher from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy.
These guests took to the classrooms and halls with engaging talks and interactive sessions, showcasing the tools of their trades and the journeys that led them there. Pupils were able to get hands-on with the world of work — whether it was trying on firefighting gear, listening to live music therapy in action, or handling equipment used in scientific research.
Headteacher Hilary MacMeekin praised the week, saying: “We are incredibly grateful to all the professionals who gave their time to inspire the children here at Noremarsh. Events like this are vital in helping children see the real-world applications of their learning and to dream big about their futures. The week was filled with interactive sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and plenty of questions from curious children eager to learn more about the world beyond the classroom.”

The week sparked more than just imagination — it instilled a sense of possibility. Whether pupils felt drawn to creative arts, healthcare, public services, science or entrepreneurship, the experience offered something meaningful to every child.
As one Year 5 pupil put it, “I didn’t know a job like that even existed — now I think I want to be a midwife or maybe a scientist!”
Careers Week at Noremarsh was not only about information, but aspiration — helping to ensure the dreams of tomorrow start taking shape today.
