One of Swindon’s leading employers is on the move after permission was granted for its ageing head office to be redeveloped into housing.
WH Smith, situated in Greenbridge since the 1980’s has had plans accepted for over 130 homes and a nursery to be built on its current site by Swindon Borough Council’s planning committee and now have three years to start work on the housing scheme.
The Swindon head office currently employ around 500 staff within the buying and distribution departments servicing over 600 High Street throughout the UK.
With planning permission being grated it is expected an announcement on a new home for the head office will be announced.
While the iconic warehouse structure will remain, the towering headquarters will be replaced with a modest housing estate.
