A Bristol man has been sentenced for dangerous driving after a late-night collision at a car meet in Swindon left parked vehicles damaged and a member of the public injured.
Milosz Sobiechowski, 22, of Selley Walk, Bishopsworth, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, 18th October, following a car meet incident that took place last year.
The court heard how, on the night of 30 September, police were alerted to a crash involving a red BMW driven by Sobiechowski at the Hawksworth Industrial Estate around 10:55 pm. Sobiechowski lost control of his car while attempting to drift, colliding with parked vehicles and injuring a bystander, who fortunately sustained only minor injuries.
Upon inspection, the BMW was found to be unroadworthy, with multiple dangerous defects and unauthorised modifications, leading to an immediate prohibition of the vehicle.
Sentencing Sobiechowski, the judge issued a 12-month driving disqualification and ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid community service within the next year. Sobiechowski must also pay a surcharge of £114. The incident has served as a reminder of the risks associated with reckless behaviour at such gatherings.
PC Beales from Wiltshire’s Roads Policing Unit addressed the gravity of the situation, stating: “Sobiechowski’s actions were incredibly dangerous, and it’s fortunate there were no severe injuries. These incidents underline the importance of Operation Staysail, our initiative launched two years ago in response to car meets, which can pose serious risks to public safety and disrupt local communities. While we respect lawful car enthusiasts, we will continue to act against those who endanger others.”
Wiltshire Police is committed to ensuring that unauthorised and unsafe behaviour at car meets is curtailed to protect public safety.
