Boxing Day disturbance in town centre sparks police appeal

A busy Boxing Day afternoon in Swindon town centre was disrupted after a large-scale disturbance broke out close to Regent Street.

Wiltshire Police have confirmed officers were called at around 2.30pm on 26 December following reports of disorder involving two groups of men outside the Taco Bell restaurant.

Witnesses described a sudden confrontation which unfolded in full view of shoppers and families who had been making the most of post-Christmas sales. Police say the two groups later split up, with one leaving the area through the Islington Street car park while the other headed off towards Canal Walk.
