Big Ben’s bongs will ring in the new year

Crowds may be absent from the banks of the Thames alongside Westminster this New Years Eve, but it has been confirmed that Big Ben will ring in the new year.

A spokesperson for The House of Commons have confirmed that the famous bell, which is only reconnected for significant occasions, has been undergoing repairs on the clock, since 2017.

Members of the public have been urged to stay away from Westminster on New Year’s Eve due to coronavirus restrictions and Boris Johnson yesterday confirmed saying “no one should be gathering in large groups to see in the new year”.
