In memory of their mother, Becky Rowland, sisters Kala and Kristy have spent the past decade transforming their grief into hope, with the Becky Rowland Tribute Fund now surpassing £27,000 in donations for Prospect Hospice. This October, as they reflect on the ten years since their mum’s passing, they find solace and pride in the impact their fundraising has had on a charity so vital to their community.
The Prospect Hospice in Swindon, where Becky received end-of-life care, has been the focus of the sisters’ fundraising efforts through a series of challenging endurance events. Since 2014, Kala and Kristy have run the equivalent of 1,600 miles—an impressive distance mirroring the journey from Wroughton to John O’Groats and back again. Through 10k races, marathons, triathlons, and even a gruelling 100km run, the sisters have been determined to keep their mum’s legacy alive while giving back to the hospice that supported their family.
“The Prospect Hospice absolutely deserves every little bit of funding it can get,” they shared. “They provide wonderful care, and I honestly don’t know where we would be without them. Channelling our energy into fundraising has truly helped us through the grieving process.”
Their efforts have received invaluable support from the community, as well as from close family friend Charlie, who recently completed a remarkable 1,000-mile walk this year, raising additional funds for the hospice. The community’s generosity and enthusiasm have been instrumental in making the tribute fund such a success, ensuring that Prospect Hospice can continue offering compassionate, end-of-life care to those in need.
Jeremy Lune, CEO of Prospect Hospice, expressed deep gratitude for the support: “We are incredibly thankful to Kala and Kristy. Their commitment and donations over the years are staggering. The support of our wonderful community is essential to our ability to provide compassionate end-of-life care to those in need—like Becky.”
With the support of the Becky Rowland Tribute Fund, Prospect Hospice remains an indispensable resource for patients and their families, continuing to provide essential services for Swindon and the surrounding area.
