Beard Construction, a company with deep roots in the South of England, has raised an impressive £50,968 for charitable causes in 2024, with funds benefiting thousands across the region.
Through a mix of physically demanding challenges, creative initiatives, and community events, Beard’s teams from Swindon, Bristol, Oxford, Guildford, and Southampton united to support causes close to their hearts.

Each of Beard’s offices selected a charity of the year, undertaking numerous fundraising activities:
- Swindon: Colleagues raised £13,254 for the Swindon Hardship Fund with events like a golf day, Tough Mudder challenge, Bristol Half Marathon, Wiltshire Three Peaks Challenge, anxiety management workshops, and dress-down days.
- Oxford: Leading the charge, the Oxford team raised £19,890 for Oxford University Sport & Community Partnership through a ‘cyclathon’, a summer BBQ, and a volunteer garden clear-out.
- Guildford: Raising £7,808 for Shooting Stars Hospice, this office tackled Mount Snowdon, completed the ‘Wolf Run’ obstacle course, played five-a-side football, and held dress-down days.
- Bristol: Fundraising for Grief Encounter, the team raised £8,770 with activities like a golf day, a 100K bike ride, and a volunteer garden clear-out.
- Southampton: Beard’s newest office contributed £1,246 to Rowan’s Hospice with a 500K-in-a-week distance challenge.
Other charities supported by Beard included Katharine House Hospice, Alzheimer’s Society, Sobell House Hospice, Julia’s House Hospice, and Help Bristol’s Homeless, among others.
Mark Beard, the company’s chairman, praised the team’s extraordinary efforts, saying, “I am exceptionally proud of all Beard colleagues and partners for their incredible commitment to these causes. The dedication shown through time, effort, and participation in such diverse challenges has been inspirational.”
A highlight of the year was the Oxford office’s inaugural ‘cyclathon’, which raised £16,400, including match funding from the Beard Charitable Foundation. The virtual cycling challenge covered an impressive 2,420 miles and involved Beard’s project partners and subcontractors.
The Beard Charitable Foundation also match-funded many of the year’s fundraising efforts. It was established to champion initiatives driven by Beard’s employees and to support local construction education projects.
