Art helps pupils show their competitive edge at Lawn Manor Academy

Students at Lawn Manor Academy have been eagerly participating in competitive art challenges to earn points for their respective houses in the annual school competition.

The three houses, Fitzroy, Pleydell, and Goddard, named after the last Lord of Lawn Manor, engage in various activities throughout the academic year to accumulate points, with the ultimate champion being declared at the year’s end.

The art competitions encompass all subject areas and consistently draw impressive entries. The current challenge revolves around the Coronation, tasking students with creating drawings or written pieces related to King Charles III.

In the previous term, the competition centered around International Women’s Day, prompting pupils to depict a woman of their choice. They had the freedom to select their mothers, family members, or even renowned figures. Keona, a Year Nine student, emerged as the overall winner with her portrayal of civil rights activist Rosa Parks. Keona found inspiration in Parks’ unwavering commitment to standing up for what she believed in.

Heading both the Art Department and Pupil Development and Character, Caireen Young oversees the house system and art competitions. She expressed immense pride in the students’ dedication and the time they invest in their artwork. The house art competitions consistently attract exceptional submissions, fostering reflection on current events and the world at large.

Young added, “The entries are entirely crafted during their personal time, so witnessing such remarkable effort in each submission is truly inspiring.”

Last year’s house competition was triumphantly claimed by Pleydell, intensifying the competition as the school eagerly approaches the culmination of the academic year and the announcement of this year’s victor.
