Prospect Hospice welcomed patients, families, and carers earlier this month for a special gathering to mark Global Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Awareness Month.
The event, held within the tranquil gardens and café of the hospice, offered a warm and comforting space for those living with MND and their loved ones. It was an afternoon built around togetherness, reflection, and gentle celebration – far removed from the clinical associations many might expect.

Guests enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea while the air was filled with live music performances, the highlight being the heartfelt appearance of the Voices of Hope Choir. Their moving songs echoed around the gardens, striking a chord with everyone present.
Speaking after the event, Dorinda Moffat, MND and Neurorespiratory Specialist Practitioner at Prospect Hospice, shared: “It was a privilege to spend this afternoon with so many wonderful people whose lives are touched by MND. This was about connection – sharing moments of joy and reflection, while also acknowledging the challenges faced daily. The strength and warmth in the room were deeply moving.”
The afternoon was not only a tribute to the individuals bravely navigating life with MND but also offered a rare opportunity for families and carers to meet others who truly understand the journey they are on.
One attendee commented: “It meant so much to us to be here today. We rarely get the chance to meet others who know exactly what this feels like. It was such a beautiful, uplifting afternoon – one we’ll hold close for a long time.”
Observed every June, Global MND Awareness Month aims to shine a spotlight on the realities of motor neurone disease, encouraging much-needed awareness, support, and funding for ongoing care and research.
Prospect Hospice continues to offer dedicated support for those living with MND. Further details can be found at www.prospect-hospice.net/mnd.
