An ambitious online auction is set to raise over £10,000 for Society Without Abuse (SWA), a Swindon-based domestic abuse charity. Marking its 50th anniversary, the organisation has lined up a collection of exclusive prizes for its ’50 for 50 Auction’, which launches at 8am on International Women’s Day, Friday 8th March, and will run until 8pm on Sunday 30th March.
The auction promises a treasure trove of experiences and items donated by local businesses and generous supporters. From a diamond-encrusted mother-of-pearl watch, courtesy of Deacon’s, to private flights over the county and VIP access to events like Goodwood Members’ Day, bidders will have the chance to get their hands on some truly special prizes. Archaeology fans will even have the opportunity to explore the ancient landscape around Stonehenge with Time Team’s Dr Phil Harding.
But it’s not all about high-end exclusives. The auction also features a variety of indulgences, including meals at Swindon’s best-loved restaurants, beauty treatments, and signed books. Every penny raised will go towards SWA’s vital work in education, prevention, and recovery programmes for children affected by domestic abuse.
Interim CEO of SWA, Kate Rowland, shared her hopes for the auction: “Thanks to the incredible generosity of businesses and individuals across Swindon and Wiltshire, we’ve assembled an amazing collection of prizes. We’re aiming to raise over £10,000 to help fund our programmes for children and young people.
“Domestic abuse can have devastating, long-term effects on children who witness it in their homes. By providing early intervention and recovery support, we can help young people rebuild their lives and break the cycle of abuse for future generations.”
