Swindon’s Big Breakfast Plus is basking in well-deserved celebration following the award of a £10,000 Nationwide Colleague Grant, a sum set to make a profound difference for the charity’s vital work.
The generous grant was secured through the efforts of Kayleigh Parker, a West Swindon resident who has dedicated 18 years to Nationwide and spends her weekends volunteering at Big Breakfast Plus. This much-loved local charity provides cooked breakfasts every single day for homeless and vulnerable individuals across Swindon.
Kayleigh shared her enthusiasm for the cause: “I volunteer one day every weekend, and I absolutely love it. All the volunteers are really lovely; we’re a great team, and it’s nice to be able to help other people. It fits in well around my family, so I can spend the day with them after helping at Big Breakfast Plus.”
She added: “The Nationwide Colleague Grant is for different amounts up to £10,000, and we were all delighted to have been awarded the full amount.”
Charlotte Mannion, a trustee at Big Breakfast Plus, expressed heartfelt thanks: “We are so grateful to Nationwide, and to Kayleigh for putting in the application. This amount will make such a difference to the charity, as we are getting increasingly busy and are regularly supplying cooked breakfasts to more than 100 guests every day.”
Big Breakfast Plus, operating from the Pilgrim Centre in Swindon’s Regent Street, is one of 160 charities across the country to have benefited from Nationwide Colleague Grants in the past year. Collectively, these grants have totalled an impressive £1.4 million.
Adding to the good news, Big Breakfast Plus recently raised a further £10,000 by partnering with Big Give, a platform which matches donations during dedicated fundraising campaigns. Charlotte continued: “We’d like to say thank you to everyone who donated during the Big Give campaign. This money guarantees another six months of opening our community café breakfast service in Swindon.”
