Swindon Speedway have confirmed their opening home meeting on the new Abbey Stadium track will be a week later than planned.
It now means the opening meeting on the new surface will be Thursday April 18 against champions Poole before newly promoted Ipswich visit the following Bank Holiday Monday.
Alun Rossiter’s men will head to Wolverhampton for their first action of the year on Monday and they are also at Poole on Good Friday.
Club Chairman Terry Russell said: “We are delighted with the work which has been done, people ask why we made a later start on the work but most people know it was out of our hands.
“The effort that has gone in is remarkable but we just feel Thursday is just that little too early, so we will now start the following Thursday.
“We all want everything to be perfect when we start. We don’t want to risk any problems, we want to ensure every effort has been made to ensure the track is ready and the extra few days will help us achieve that.
“We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and look forward to seeing the boys at Wolves on Monday and then back at the Abbey for a big one on the Thursday.”
A new date will be announced in due course for Belle Vue’s visit.
