After relocating to the Health Hydro in January, the Shoebox Theatre will be opening its doors to audiences and hosting its first touring show in May.
“We have been running our theatre training programme in the new space since the end of January and are so pleased with the new studio. However, we had to wait a few months before we could host a show as we needed to make changes to our raised seating system. We have been itching to get an audience in the new space and are delighted to be working with Doug Kirby, Director of Stage D’Or to bring their touring production of ‘After Today’ to the theatre. The show started its life in Swindon with a scratch performance, so it’s great to welcome it back after its run at the Edinburgh Fringe last year.” Said Luke Marquez, Artistic Director of the Shoebox Theatre.
In December 1976, the pop group Queen were due to appear on the Today Show, hosted by Bill Grundy. But for some reason they cancelled at the last minute and were replaced by The Sex Pistols, leading to a car crash interview that led to a spectacular fall from grace for Bill, and put the Pistols into the mainstream.
The show focuses on TV presenter Bill Grundy three years after this profanity-littered, car-crash interview with the Sex Pistols live on tea-time TV. An erudite, driven man, but with a huge self-destructive streak, Bill struggles to keep his career going.
Described as a “A find of the Fringe, witty, surprising and well performed” After Today is a must see.
