Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre is set to host a hilarious new comedy this spring with Mothers of The Brides, a show that promises an evening full of laughs, chaos, and wedding madness.
The show, set to take the stage on Thursday 1st May 2025, brings together a cast of talented performers, including Diane Carson, best known for her memorable stint on BBC One’s The Traitors.
Diane, who became a fan favourite on the second series of The Traitors, is making her stage debut in the role of Audrey, one of three mothers desperately trying to survive the madness of planning their daughters’ weddings. Audiences will see the Lancashire-born actress step into the world of theatre for the first time in this upbeat comedy.
Speaking about her new role, Diane said: “I’m so looking forward to the challenge of being on stage in Mothers of the Brides. It’s been a real thrill to get the chance to try something new, and I’m excited to tour with these fabulous ladies. I’ve always loved comedy and making people laugh, so this is the perfect opportunity!”
Joining Diane on stage are Helen Logan and Julie Coombe, both seasoned actors with extensive stage experience. Helen, a regular in BBC dramas such as River City and Lockerbie, will play Sabrina, another mother caught up in the wedding whirlwind. She’s thrilled to be part of the show, sharing, “As a huge Traitors fan, I can’t wait to work with Diane and have a laugh with Julie. It’s going to be such a blast!”
Julie Coombe, who is also one of the writers behind the show, will take on the role of Trisha. Julie is no stranger to comedy, having created and starred in Hormonal Housewives and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. She’s delighted to bring a show to life that celebrates women, especially those who are “bolder, not older” and still know how to have fun. She explained, “We wanted to create a show that really reflects the reality of life as you move into a new stage. Women don’t disappear, they get bolder! And we’re making sure everyone has a good laugh along the way.”
Mothers of The Brides follows three mothers who, while trying to guide their daughters through the trials and tribulations of wedding planning, also find themselves in a hilarious tangle of chaos. From fussy wedding dresses to nightmare guests, and wedding choreography that’s anything but graceful, the show promises to deliver plenty of comedic moments for all ages.
The production is presented by Almack Productions, helmed by emerging Scottish theatre producer Alan Mackintosh. The production also marks a collaboration with the creative duo Julie Coombe and John MacIsaac, who are known for their success with Hormonal Housewives. The show is directed by John MacIsaac and is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy that is bound to resonate with anyone who has ever had to plan a wedding or attend one.
Mothers of The Brides will tour across the UK, with Wyvern Theatre in Swindon being one of its first stops. The show is set to visit numerous venues nationwide, with further dates to be announced.
