Ever seen those advertisments for musical open mic. nights and thought, wouldn’t it be great if there was something similar for the spoken word? Well, now there is.
Wonderwords is a spoken word and song evening held in the heart of Swindon on the first Tuesday of every month.
They welcome wordsmiths of all kinds: storytellers, singer-songwriters, folksingers, poets, comedians and so on. Friendly musicians are also welcome to help reset our minds with music before the words continue. If you are just looking to listen then you are very welcome too!
Wonderwords is first and foremost a place for people who love the magic and wonder in words to come together and share their wordy creativity and is a not-for-profit event. The small entry fee is charged to pay for the hire of the venue i.e. the maintenance of buildings important to Swindon’s heritage and, if there’s any spare, to pay for such things as posters to advertise the events.
If you want to be part of a night which promotes the traditional art of speaking or singing from memory the next one takes place takes place on Tuesday 8th May from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Central Community Centre, Emlyn Sq Swindon SN1 5BP. Entry £2.00.
