World of Music, Arts, and Dance (WOMAD), the world-renowned music and arts festival, is thrilled to announce its latest additions to the lineup ahead of the festival’s return to Charlton Park from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th July 2024.
This year’s festival promises a diverse mix of artists from around the globe, including Sicily-born reggae sensation Alborosie, set to ignite the stage on Thursday night with his infectious beats. Joining him is DJ Paulette, a pioneering force in the world of female DJs, known for her trailblazing career spanning decades.
Sid Sriram will be blending Indie, R&B, and Carnatic music; the Ghana Special ensemble, showcasing the vibrant sounds of West Africa; and LINA_, hailed for her mastery of Portuguese fado.
From across the Atlantic, Leyla McCalla infuses folk traditions with her Haitian heritage, while Emel’s politically charged tunes resonate with audiences worldwide. Brittany Davis draws inspiration from soul icons like Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys, while the all-female Pankisi Ensemble brings Georgian harmonies to the forefront.
Diverse acts such as Gnawa Blues All Stars, Orange Blossom, and Flamingods promise to captivate audiences with their unique blends of traditional and contemporary sounds. Meanwhile, Genticorum, Gangar, and Hack-Poets Guild celebrate folk traditions from Canada, Norway, and the UK, respectively.
Not to be missed are the New Regency Orchestra’s fusion of Latin jazz with a London twist, the genre-defying GS Collective, and the spiritually progressive sounds of Levitation Orchestra.
Flying in from Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon Soul Revival revives the soulful sounds of sixties and seventies Vietnamese music, while TC & The Groove Family deliver an irresistible fusion of Afrobeats, Jungle, and ska.
The lineup also boasts talented DJs like Romare, WBBL, Mista Trick, and O.B.F., ensuring the festival’s vibrant energy continues into the night.
These artists will join the previously announced Sampa The Great, Young Fathers, Alison Goldfrapp, Amadou & Mariam, Baaba Maal, Gogol Bordello, and DAM.
WOMAD is not just about music; it’s a celebration of culture and diversity. Stay tuned for more announcements on the World of Words, coming next week.
